VASCULAR DISORDERS

Vascular disorders or blood vessel disorders are those which affect the circulation of blood. Vascular diseases result from problems in arteries, veins, and lymphatic channels. The types of vascular diseases are deep vein thrombosis, lymphedema, peripheral artery disease, aneurysm, varicose veins, etc. Causes of cardiovascular disorders are believed to be a blockage in the blood vessels, trauma, inflammation, atherosclerosis, and so on.

The risk factors for vascular disorders are family history of vascular disease, lack of physical activity, obesity, smoking, stress, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Symptoms of peripheral vascular disease include pain, discoloration, skin infection, and ulcers. Pulmonary vascular disease is a condition that affects the blood vessels within the lungs.

Pulmonary vascular disease is caused by pulmonary arterial hypertension and pulmonary embolism. Symptoms include shortness of breath and chest pains. Vascular disorders are diagnosed with the help of CT scan, echocardiography, chest X-Ray, and pulmonary angiography. Treatment for vascular disease includes certain medications to control blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood clots. Surgeries such as angioplasty, and vascular stenting are also available.
